Tracefuh is a tiny experiment in emergent behavior. Place the food to watch the ant move. Its world follows the rules of Langton's Ant. Its behaviour is controlled by a small program written in an esoteric programming language (brainf###).

You don't control the ant. You give it a world, a goal, and a tiny brain, then watch what happens and play around to find out :3

HOW TO PLAY

CLICK to place the food.
TYPE to change the ant's instinct during training.
SPACE to run or continue.
R to restart after a run.

THE EXPERIMENT

Tracefuh starts with a tiny world and a tiny program and it still is haha!

Each instinct introduces another piece of the machine's language. The grid grows, the rules are less forgiving as you proceed, and eventually the ant is left alone with its own program. The ant has a limited number of thoughts to reach the food. The program is emergent so playing around is what matters!!!

WHAT'S UNDERNEATH

Langton's Ant determines how the ant changes and moves through its world.

Brainfuck acts as its tiny programmable instinct, processing what the ant senses and turning that into movement.

CONTROLS

Mouse: place food
Keyboard: edit instinct
Space: continue
R: restart
